ANC
Johannesburg – The African National Congress (ANC) is holding its ordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting from 14 to 16 November 2025 at the Germiston Council Chambers, focusing on the Year of Renewal to create a stronger, more people-focused movement. The gathering will look at South Africa’s role in the G20, updates on the National Dialogue, important cases at the ANC Integrity Commission, and how ready the party is for the upcoming National General Council (NGC). This meeting comes at a key time for the ANC, after losing its full majority in the 2024 elections and forming governments of unity. As the party works to rebuild trust and push for change, leaders hope these talks will help fix internal problems and better serve South Africans facing tough times like high joblessness and service gaps. With the G20 Summit starting next week, the NEC’s views could shape how South Africa speaks for Africa on the world stage.
Key Agenda Items: Reflecting on Global and Local Priorities
The NEC will spend time looking back at South Africa’s work in the G20, where the country has pushed for fairer global rules on debt, trade, and climate. As host of the 2025 G20, South Africa has focused on themes like “Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability,” aiming to help poorer countries with money troubles and green growth. The meeting will check how these talks can bring real wins home, like more jobs from new investments or better aid for small businesses.
Progress on the National Dialogue will also be a big topic. Started in 2023, this process brings together government, business, unions, and communities to find ways to fix the economy, cut crime, and improve lives. Updates could include deals on job plans or safety steps, but some say it’s moved too slow with not enough input from everyday people.
Tackling Internal Matters: Integrity Commission and Party Discipline
The ANC Integrity Commission will share on key cases it’s handling. This body looks into claims against members, like corruption or bad behaviour, to keep the party clean. With recent scandals in places like Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, the NEC might talk about stronger rules to deal with wrongdoers. This is important as the ANC works to win back trust after election losses, where voters said they were tired of graft.
The meeting will also check readiness for the NGC, set for mid-2026. The NGC is like a mid-term check-up where members review progress on party goals and make changes. Talks could cover how to strengthen branches, boost youth involvement, and prepare for 2026 local polls. With the ANC in unity governments now, the NEC might plan ways to hold onto power while working with others.
Year of Renewal: Building a Stronger ANC
The meeting is part of the ANC’s Year of Renewal, a plan to make the party better at serving people. This includes fixing weak spots like poor local services and slow job growth. Leaders want a movement that’s closer to communities, with clearer goals on things like land reform and health care.
Since the 2024 elections, the ANC has lost ground in big provinces, leading to coalitions. The NEC will likely talk about how to make these work while keeping ANC ideas at the front. This could include better training for leaders and more focus on youth and women in roles.
