ANC Veterans League
The African National Congress (ANC) has called on veterans of the party to stop de-campaigning the organization and instead work through the structures of the organization. This call comes in the wake of the resignation of ANC Veterans League Deputy President and stalwart, Mavuso Msimang.
In a statement released today, the ANC expressed its deep appreciation for Msimang’s contributions to the party and the cause of freedom. The party acknowledged Msimang’s six decades of dedicated service to the ANC and emphasized the invaluable nature of his contributions.
Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, ANC National Spokesperson, reiterated the party’s commitment to the fulfillment of the 55th Conference resolutions on renewal and unity, including discipline. Bhengu-Motsiri emphasized that the ANC has an open-door policy and internal communication systems, and de-campaigning the ANC has serious implications for the organization’s public standing.
In his resignation letter to the ANC Secretary General, Msimang expressed profound sadness and regret in terminating his membership of the ANC. He highlighted the endemic corruption that has plagued the party and its devastating consequences on the governance of the country and the lives of the most vulnerable members of society.
Msimang lamented the ANC’s track record of corruption, noting that the party’s failures had dire consequences for the most vulnerable members of society. He highlighted issues such as the prevalence of informal settlements, inadequate public infrastructure, and the lack of essential services for the most needy.
Furthermore, Msimang criticized the ANC’s response to corruption, stating that the leadership had been largely dismissive of constructive criticism and censure. He highlighted the urgent need for the party to address corruption and malfeasance within its ranks, emphasizing that the failure to do so would result in the ANC losing power.
In response to Msimang’s resignation and criticisms, the ANC has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the challenges facing the organization. The party has called on veterans to refrain from de-campaigning the ANC and instead work through its internal structures to effect change and renewal.
The ANC’s leadership, led by President Cyril Ramaphosa, has emphasized their openness to counsel and direction from veterans and stalwarts of the party.
The party has acknowledged the need for unity and renewal, and has committed to taking the necessary steps to address the concerns raised by Msimang and other veterans.
