Klerksdorp – In five weeks going into the local government elections, the African National Congress (ANC) Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) in the North West province led by Hlomane Chauke has announced Rose Thabanchu as its Mayoral candidate of the Matlosana Local Municipality on Wednesday, 22 September.
This follows of the death of the late executive mayor of the municipality, Maetu Kgaile who has passed away due to Covid-19 related complications.
“We once more convey our deepest appreciations to the family of the former Mayor, the late Cde Maetu Kgaile, for having shared her with us and the people of Matlosana. May her revolutionary soul find eternal rest,” said Chauke.
Thabanchu is expected to supply service delivery and to create job opportunities for the youth of Matlosana in the period of less than 5 weeks as the newly announced executive mayor.
Speaking to Free State Central News, former ANC’s regional secretary of Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, Lopang Rothman said that they are hoping that this is a progressive move by the ANC in the province. He continued to say that service delivery is still one of the biggest challenges for the municipality.
The SANCO regional secretary, Tshepo Khoza welcomed the announcement by the ANC IPC, and further advised the incoming executive mayor to visit and engage with the community members via door-to-door campaign as the local government elections approaches.
“The African National Congress has resolved to deploy one of its accomplished cadres, Cde Rose Thabanchu as the Executive Mayor of the Matlosana Local Municipality. Cde Rose brings wealth of experience into this position as a credible and disciplined cadre of the movement and an experienced public representative in the local government sphere,” said Chauke.

“This deployment is as a consequence of rigorous and intensive interviews of three candidates that were recommended to the national structures by the IPC,” said Chauke.
Chauke believes that Thabanchu is equal to the task and will be able to work with the collective of the Matlosana Local Municipality to deliver much needed basic services for our people.
Thabanchu who is former Speaker of council possesses a University Diploma in Education, a Bachelor Degree in Education and Industrial Psychology, Honours Degree in Industrial Psychology and a Masters Degree in Development and Management.
