AmaZulu FC has rolled out a simplified new logo that embodies unity and fan involvement. The Betway Premiership side, based in Durban, shared the redesign on social media, declaring: “This was made by you. Made for all of us. Unity is power.” Accompanying the logo is the club’s new mascot, “Hebe,” symbolising strength and community spirit. The unveiling on Friday, 31 October 2025, has sparked mixed reactions from fans, with some praising the modern look while others question the change. This rebranding comes as AmaZulu aims to strengthen its identity amid a challenging season, sitting mid-table with hopes of climbing higher.
The New Logo: Simplicity Meets Tradition
The updated emblem features a clean, shield-like design with “AMA ZULU FC” in bold letters on a green background, flanked by the rallying cry “HEBE! USUTHU!” – a nod to the club’s Zulu heritage and passionate supporters. The green colour pays homage to the team’s traditional kit, while the minimalist style aims for a contemporary feel. Club officials explained that the redesign was inspired by fan input, making it a collective creation rather than a top-down decision.
Social media posts from the club and fans highlight the logo’s focus on unity, with one announcement stating it was “made by you” to foster a sense of ownership. The reveal quickly gained traction online, with the post from @FARPostZA garnering over 3,600 views and dozens of likes. [2] Supporters shared their thoughts, ranging from enthusiasm to scepticism. One user, @noxoloh, joked, “Hi @orlandopirates I’m available 😊,” playfully suggesting a switch in allegiance. [2] Another, @Si…, quipped about the mascot: “His name is Hebe.” [1]
Positive feedback focused on the logo’s simplicity and cultural relevance, with fans appreciating how it captures the essence of unity. Critics, however, felt it lacked the flair of the old design, sparking debates on whether change was needed. Overall, the rebrand has energised discussions around the club’s future direction.
Club’s Struggles and Rebranding Strategy
AmaZulu FC, founded in 1932, has a rich history but has faced ups and downs in recent years. Currently sitting 7th in the PSL with 15 points from 10 matches, the team hopes the new identity will inspire better performances. Under coach Pablo Franco Martin, they have shown promise but need consistency to challenge top sides like Mamelodi Sundowns.
The rebranding is part of a broader strategy to engage fans and attract sponsors. By involving the community in the design process, AmaZulu aims to build loyalty and pride. The club has teased more updates, including potential kit changes, to align with the fresh look.
