Al Ahly made history and claimed their tenth CAF champions League and their second consecutive one after beating Kaizer Chiefs.

The Red Devils achieved their tenth star after a huge 3-0 victory against their South African opponents at Mohamed V Stadium in Morocco.

The only change that was made to the Al Ahly squad that faced Misr El-Makkasa was Taher Mohamed for Junior Ajayi, while Hamdi Fathi and Amr El-Sulya kept their place in the middle of the park ahead of Aliou Dieng.

Unfruitful possession was the title of the first half, Al Ahly controlled the pace of the game but with no real chances, while Chiefs relyed on the deep defence.

The Cairo giants sent multiple crosses to the box especially through Ali Maaloul but none were being met by Al Ahly forwards.

The highlight of the first 45 minutes came just seconds before the players head into the tunnels as Happy Mashiane was given his marching orders following a violent tackle on Akram Tawfik. The player was first shown a yellow card, but after consulting the VAR, the referee upgraded it to red.

After the break, things were totally different as Al Ahly controlled the game the way they wanted and managed to translate their possession into goals after eight minutes when Mohamed Sherif was sent through on goal by Akram Tawfik, before chipping the keeper.

That wasn’t the end of it, ten minutes later Afsha doubled the lead for the Reds with a scorcher from the edge of the box after an assist from Mohamed Sherif.

In the 73rd minute, El-Sulya netted the third for Al Ahly when he sent an absolute screamer, assisted by Sherif, that guaranteed the Reds their tenth star.

Kaizer Chiefs then made a few attempts trying to reduce the gap but the South African chances were no threat to the title-holder’s nets.

Egypt powerhouse Al Ahly now have ten CAF Champions League titles under their belt as record-holders, Zamalek and TP Mazembe come second with five titles each.

They will also compete in the Club World Cup for the seventh time in their history, with the only other confirmed team in the upcoming tournament being European champions Chelsea. @kingfut
