The defence lawyer in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case, advocate Teffo Malesela has blamed the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele for his dramatic arrest.

By Thys Khiba – Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed advocate Teffo Malesela opened a case of crimen injuria at the Johannesburg Central and Brixton police stations against the EFF Julius Malema and Kelly Khumalo’s lawyer, Magdalene Moonsamy.

A case of defamation of character and crimen injuria is currently under investigation.

The EFF national spokesperson, Sinawo Thambo confirmed that the party leader Malema is aware of the ‘frivolous’ case of defamation and crimen injuria opened by Teffo.

“Teffo is an embarrassment to the legal profession, because he has used the tragedy of the late Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa to build a profile for himself,” Thambo said.

Teffo, who represented four of the men accused in the murder trial of Senzo Meyiwa, withdrew from the case after accusing Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela and the state of harassing him.

The party has advised Teffo to pursue a career which will allow him to be the centre of attention as they believe that it is what he wants.

“He proceeded to accuse the sitting Judge in the Meyiwa case, Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela of bewitching him, an irrational and illogical assertion by an Advocate against a judge,” said Thambo.

Before he withdrew, Teffo demanded that police minister BhekiCele be fired from his position as a national minister.

In one of his demands Teffo wrote to the high court demanding that Khumalo be prosecuted in the murder trial of Meyiwa.

Calls for his suspension have been launched by the Legal Practice Council (LPC), which Teffo claims that those calls were orchestrated by police, the NPA and courts.
