Activist Kamohelo Teele Faces Legal Battle for Speaking Out Against Corruption

Freestate activist Kamohelo Teele recently announced that a case has been filed against him by Masechaba Sesing, the Head of Department at Free State Provincial Treasury.

Teele allegedly made defamatory remarks and engaged in cyber-crime during a demonstration at the Treasury’s Head Office on August 2nd, 2023. The case, numbered 157/08/2023, was opened at Parkroad Police Station in Bloemfontein, and is currently under preliminary investigation.

Teele, along with other Free State Civil Society Groups, including the NEHAWU Free State Leadership, has been urging Premier Mxolisi Dukwana to take action against Sesing following investigations conducted by the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Public Protector.

These investigations focused on allegations of misconduct by Sesing, including the backdating of a provincial banking contract extension with Standard Bank and interference in the recruitment processes for a top official.

The Public Protector spokesperson, Ndili Msoki, has referred the matter of alleged interference in top official recruitment to the PSC for further action.

Teele has expressed his commitment to cooperating with the ongoing investigations and respecting the legal processes that may result in his potential arrest or court appearance. He plans to appoint a spokesperson and a legal team to handle his defense in court, and promises to keep the South African media and the public informed about the progress of the case.

“I am a patriotic South African who upholds the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law,” Teele stated. “I will remain devoted to the fight against corruption and the holding of the executive accountable. Furthermore, I will continue to challenge and combat the injustices that our people face. This is a cause I am willing to sacrifice my freedom and even my life for.”
