SAFA President’s Message of Encouragement

SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the teams that have made the cut for the playoffs. He expressed his best wishes to them as they gear up for this prestigious promotional event.

“You have all done very well to get to this point; now it is time for the last big hurdle, which has a huge reward in gaining promotion to the Motsepe Championship. It is always heartwarming to see teams that come through our structures playing in the professional ranks, and we believe that those who will gain promotion will also go on to do well in the first division and ultimately get to the premier league like Magesi FC,” said Dr Jordaan.

Teams Set for the Showdown

The seven teams that have earned their spots at the upcoming SA third-tier national playoffs are:

  • Dondol Stars [Gauteng]
  • Njampela FC [KwaZulu-Natal]
  • FN Rangers [Western Cape]
  • Kruger United [Mpumalanga]
  • Mpheni Defenders [Limpopo]
  • Mangaung Unite [Free State]
  • Thames FC [North West]

Last season saw Upington City of Northern Cape and Orbit College from North West clinch the promotions to the SA football second tier. This year, all eyes are on Dondol Stars and Mpheni Defenders, who are favourites and will compete in the playoffs for the second consecutive time.

Path to Promotion

The structure of the tournament is straightforward yet challenging. The two finalists will gain automatic promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. As in previous campaigns, the competition promises to be fierce, with each team bringing its best to the field.

A Testament to a Strong Partnership

For the past 11 years, SAFA and the Motsepe Foundation have cultivated a strong partnership, nurturing football talent across South Africa. With plans to extend this collaboration, the future looks bright for up-and-coming footballers.
