Ganyesa – The South African Police Service (SAPS) Spokesperson in the North West province, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani confirmed that a 30-year-old man is expected to appear in the Ganyesa Magistrate’ Court on Tuesday, 10 August 2021, in connection with the alleged murder of his 24-year-old girlfriend.

This is after he has been arrested on Friday, 6 August 2021, on a charge of murder.

“According to information received, the couple that stayed together at their RDP house at Bakola Section in Ganyesa, had an argument on Wednesday, evening, 4 August 2021. That was after the suspect allegedly saw his girlfriend drinking and talking to another man at a tavern in Vryburg,” said Lieutenant Colonel Funani.

Funani said subsequent to the quarrel, the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim with a spade leading to her sustaining multiple and grievous bodily injuries.

Police officials were informed that the former’s body was covered with a blanket and pushed beneath the bed by the suspect after he realized that the girlfriend was dead. The suspect then fled to his brother’s place in Kuruman, Northern Cape on Thursday, 05 August 2021.

The brother of the suspect who lives in Kuruman was allegedly informed about the incident by the suspect.

“The matter was eventually reported to the brother’s landlord and the police in Kuruman leading to discovery of the victim’s body. The suspect was then arrested and taken to Ganyesa where he is expected to appear in the local Magistrates’ Court.”

The Provincial Commissioner in the province, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the brutal murder of the young lady who was killed during Women’s Month by someone who was supposed to protect her.
