25-Year-Old Woman to Appear in Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Child Pornography and Money Laundering Charges

Randburg Magistrate’s Court

A 25-year-old woman is set to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court today on charges of possession of child pornography and money laundering. The suspect, a web designer by profession, was arrested in Houghton, Johannesburg, last week. She is reportedly the girlfriend of 35-year-old Darryn Wilken, who was arrested earlier this month.

Background on Darryn Wilken’s Arrest

Darryn Wilken was apprehended during a takedown operation by the police, who discovered an estimated 10 million images and videos of child sexual abuse material on electronic devices at his Midrand residence. In addition to the explicit materials, over R500,000 in cash was seized from the property. Wilken made his first appearance at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 20 January 2025, facing charges of possession and distribution of child pornography, drug possession, money laundering, and fraud.

Arrest of the 25-Year-Old Woman

Following Wilken’s arrest, an intensive investigation by the Serial and Electronic FCS Investigation (SECI) unit uncovered evidence linking the 25-year-old woman to criminal activities. She was arrested in Houghton on Thursday, 23 January 2025. The investigation revealed that she was in possession of an estimated 10 million child pornography images and videos, similar to the materials found in Wilken’s possession. These explicit materials were discovered on various electronic devices seized during an operation on Friday, 17 January 2025.

The woman faces charges of possession of child pornography and money laundering. Her court appearance today will determine the course of legal proceedings against her. The authorities have not yet released her name, pending further investigation and court proceedings.

Public Awareness and Law Enforcement Efforts

The arrests of Wilken and his girlfriend have sparked significant public concern regarding the prevalence of child sexual abuse material. Advocacy groups are calling for increased awareness and a shift in how South Africans discuss and address child sexual abuse material. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has emphasized its commitment to combating such crimes, urging the public to report any suspicious activities related to child exploitation.
