South African Football Association (SAFA) COO Lydia Monyepao is excited ahead of the kick-off of the 2023 Hollywoodbets Super League.
Monyepao says she is looking forward to quality, competitive and exciting football as the Hollywoodbets Super League clubs have strengthened their ranks with some great players. She said the excitement will be heightened by the fact that the clubs will also be looking to attract the attention of Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis as she continues to prepare for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup later this year.
“We have worked so hard as a nation to get to this point in women’s football and I believe it will be a great year. Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have done a great job over the past three seasons by dominating the league and representing us as a country at the CAF Women’s Champions League,” said the SAFA COO said.
“However, I believe this season will not be very easy for them as the other clubs have made some great signings and intend to challenge Sundowns. We want to welcome the two promoted clubs, Copperbelts Ladies and University of Pretoria, to the Hollywoodbets Super League and wish them all the best in their maiden season.
“We are also excited to have Royal AM and TS Galaxy in the Super League. I believe that the addition of these two clubs will help generate the much-needed national interest and attention we need.”
