2023 National Women’s Day Commemoration to be held at the Union Buildings

The Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture has officially announced that the 2023 National Women’s Day Commemoration will now be held at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

This decision comes as a result of the ongoing taxi strike in Cape Town, specifically in the high-security risk area of Khayelitsha.

Initially, the commemoration was scheduled to take place in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, but due to safety concerns, the location had to be changed. The Department of Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, as the lead department for Women’s Day commemorations, has collaborated with the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture to ensure a seamless transition.

The day will commence with a symbolic walk from Sammy Marks to the Union Buildings, highlighting the significance of women’s empowerment and the progress made in achieving gender equality.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver a keynote address during the formal program, emphasizing the government’s commitment to women’s rights and the advancement of gender equality in South Africa.
