2 Male Suspects Arrested for Possession of Explosives and Drugs

Virginia – Two male suspects are expected to appear at Virginia Magistrate Court on Monday, 17 May after they were arrested for being in possession of explosives and drugs in Virginia on Friday.

Virginia – Two male suspects are expected to appear at Virginia Magistrate Court on Monday, 17 May after they were arrested for being in possession of explosives and drugs in Virginia on Friday.

“A case docket of possession of explosives and state property as well as possession of drugs were opened for further investigation after two men were arrested on Friday 14 May 2021 at about 10:30 in Virginia,” said Brigadier Motantsi Makhele.

This is after members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) were informed about a possible housebreaking taking place in Dassie street.

According to Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, Police Officials went to the Supermarket to follow up this information and also at the container near taxi rank. They met a foreign national, owner of the container whose container was searched but nothing was found.

“The members proceeded to a house in Dassie Street where they met a white male who looked suspicious carrying a green bag.  His bag was searched and a hand grenade, gloves, head lamp and drug pipe were found inside it. In another room in the same premises, another male was found in possession of drugs. He was also arrested,” said Brigadier Makhele.

Explosives Unit members were summoned to confirm the grenade. The grenade was seized by the police. The owner of a grenade, a suspected 37 year old man was arrested.

“The two suspects will be charged for possession of explosives and possession of drugs respectively,” said Brigadier Makhele.
