The funeral for Latoya Temilton, a 12-year-old grade 7 student who tragically passed away on a school outing, took place on Saturday. The young learner reportedly drowned at a camp organized by Laerskool Queenswood, her school.

In response to the devastating incident, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has taken action by appointing an independent law firm to investigate the circumstances surrounding Latoya’s death. The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, stated that Chiloane will introduce the firm to the school’s management and the school governing body on Monday.
“The firm will be introduced for them to undertake the necessary investigation which will then assist us to take the necessary decision as per the recommendations that will be coming from them after their investigation,” said Mabona.
Latoya’s body was found in the Crocodile River after an extensive search and rescue operation. The community is in mourning for the loss of this young student, and the investigation will hopefully bring answers to the questions surrounding her tragic passing.
