By Thys Khiba – Mpumalanga police have arrested a 34-year-old male suspect for allegedly stealing money from Capitec ATM in Standerton on Sunday.

Four suspects managed to flee from the scene after one could not make it as law enforcement agencies collaborated their resources and cornered him.

This comes after a group of about five suspects allegedly went to a Capitec Bank ATM at a shopping centre in a purple VW Polo.

It is alleged that the group managed to gain access to where the money was and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the ATM.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier SelvyMohlala, the arrested man was found with more than R100 000 in his possession as well as a toy gun and a magazine for a pistol.

The good partnership between the police and the local security guards in Standerton had led to the arrest of a suspect (34).

An alarm was then activated which notified the security company who in turn alerted Standerton SAPS,” said Mohlala.

The arrested suspect is charged for burglary as well as for possession of suspected stolen property (cash).

He is expected to appear at the Standerton Magistrates’ Court soon facing the said charges.
